Local Early Learning & Child Care Professionals Honoured in Special Ceremony

Fifty Early Learning Professionals, volunteers and students received recognition last evening at the 21st Annual Niagara Early Learning and Child Care Awards of Excellence celebration at the Holiday Inn & Suites in St. Catharines Conference Centre. The event was coordinated by the Early Childhood Community Development Centre (ECCDC).

There were approximately 330 guests in attendance at the Oscars style gala, sponsored by Louise Kool & Galt, one of Canada’s leading suppliers of classroom resources and equipment. Nine local businesses also supported the event, including: Gold Level Sponsors YMCA of Niagara and the St. Catharines Standard; Silver Level Sponsors A Child’s World Family Child Care Services of Niagara, Minuteman Press, and PenFinancial Credit Union; and Bronze Level Sponsors Brock University Bachelor of Early Childhood Education Degree Program and Mountainview Homes. This year’s special Niagara Walk of Fame Sponsor was Pathstone Mental Health. Many other businesses contributed items for the silent auction fundraiser.

Celebrating the Stars of Niagara’s Early Learning and Child Care Community!

21st Annual Early Learning and Child Care Awards of Excellence Celebration

This year’s annual Early Learning and Child Care Awards of Excellence will celebrate the accomplishments of Niagara’s early years sector with an Oscars Themed Gala. The event will take place on Thursday November 16, from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Holiday Inn & Suites on Ontario Street in St. Catharines.

The Awards of Excellence recognizes the professionalism and dedication of educators, students and volunteers involved in Niagara’s early learning, kindergarten, and child care programs for their expertise and devotion to children and families. This special ceremony will be hosted by 105.7 EZ Rock’s Tami Jeanneret. We are also thrilled to have Darlene Edgar, Director of Children’s Services, Niagara Region; Shannon Fuller, Assistant Deputy Minister from the Ministry of Education; Cynthia Abel, Manager of Registration and Member Services from the College of Early Childhood Educators; Lois Mahon, Past President of the College of Early Childhood Educators and longtime ECCDC Supporter; Member of Parliament Chris Bittle; and Member of Provincial Parliament Jim Bradley in attendance. The Awards of Excellence are coordinated by the Early Childhood Community Development Centre (ECCDC).

A Celebration of Babies in Niagara Through the Internationally Acclaimed Roots of Empathy Program

On Tuesday June 13, 2017 the Early Childhood Community Development Centre (ECCDC), Niagara’s Roots of Empathy Coordinating agency, was excited to host the program’s annual Baby Celebration at the District School Board of Niagara’s head office, 191 Carlton Street, St. Catharines.

Approximately 70 attended the celebration honouring the stars of Roots of Empathy, including instructors from the District School Board of Niagara and the Niagara Catholic District School Board and all of the dedicated families who have participated in the program over the year. The highlight of the morning was celebrating the program’s youngest teachers; 29 Roots of Empathy babies.

“Changing the world child by child.” Roots of Empathy Baby Celebration

This year’s annual Roots of Empathy Baby Celebration will be honouring the world’s youngest teachers – the Roots of Empathy babies. For the past 10 months, approximately 2,000 children across the region in the Niagara Catholic District School Board as well as the District School Board of Niagara and Ontario Early Years Centres have been shown, through the actions of an infant, how to be more empathetic. The event will take place on Tuesday June 13th at the District School Board of Niagara at 191 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. The doors will open at 9:45 a.m. with the celebration ending at 11:30 a.m.
