Why Does the ECCDC Gather Personal Information?

The ECCDC is an independent registered charitable organization. From time to time, the ECCDC may ask those involved with the organization for personal information. This may occur for a variety of reasons, including: program and service registration; legal, regulatory or contractual requirements; participant needs and eligibility assessment; research, planning and education; safety and security; volunteer development; or ECCDC sales and marketing.

The ECCDC’s Privacy Policy in Brief

The ECCDC does not sell, rent or otherwise make available to third parties any personal, contact or other sensitive information obtained from our members, clients or project partners. We do regular checks to ensure our policies, practices and procedures are compliant with applicable privacy legislation.

How Does the ECCDC Ensure Privacy Protection?

We are careful to collect, use, and disclose information only for the purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate for a charitable, community-based organization. While accessing the services of the ECCDC implies consent for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information as it relates to the work of the ECCDC, there are safeguards in place at all levels of our organization to help protect your privacy. Some of these safeguards include limiting data collection; seeking consent prior to collecting personal data; limiting the use of the data we collect and limiting the period of time we retain this data. We also regularly review the purposes for which we are collecting information and limit access to this data to a small number of authorized persons. All of our internal systems and procedures are designed to protect your information from error, loss, and unauthorized access. Additionally, we conduct regular compliance inquiries.

Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation

The Canada Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires that anyone sending commercial electronic messages obtain the express consent of recipients. The legislation contains provisions to minimize its impact on registered charities such as the ECCDC. Emails sent by the ECCDC generally fall under two areas of exemption from the legislation. They are either purely informational, or they relate to a commercial activity that helps us carry out our mission or that raises funds that directly support our work.
